It’s hard to believe that an entire month has gone by since Andrew and I hosted the first Roll and Talk TOEFL. It was a great event, and it left me with some thoughts.
First of all, I thought about the power that technology gives us to connect with others from different parts of the world. There were people connecting from the United States, Chile, and Afghanistan for the event. They are three very different cultures, but the common goal of practicing for TOEFL brought us together.
I also thought about the commitment that was displayed by the participants. It’s not easy to connect on a Saturday morning (or evening) to do something that is difficult after a long workweek, but they showed up and put in the work. I hadn’t had any contact with two of the people that connected before this, so the fact that they decided to put their trust and time into our hands gave me confidence in what Andrew and I are doing.
Last but not least, there was also the impact that the event had for everyone involved. One participant had a really nice way of sharing personal stories in his responses to the questions. Another participant displayed an excellent use of connectors that really helped us understand the flow of one idea to another. The third participant share a message of a hope for peace in her future when asked about something that she’d like to change about the world.
All in all, this was a success for everyone. Andrew and I plan on continuing to offer Roll and Talk TOEFL on a monthly basis as a way for people to get free speaking practice.
The next Roll and Talk TOEFL is happening this Saturday August 22nd at 11 am Chile time. If you’d like to attend you can click here to register.

Thanks for reading and I hope to see you there!
